4 Aug this morning is running its poll with the question whether the recent heat wave is caused by global warming or just a regular warm trend. With over 100,000 votes submitted, 54% think global warming is the cause.

Now, it is possible that this year’s heat problems are just a natural phenomenon. But when we consider that the 20 hottest years on record all occurred within the last 25 years, and that includes the last five years, there seems to be more than just a random event.

Of course, the poll is hardly scientific. But 100,000+ opinions represents a fairly decent cross section of society, when you consider that professional polls often work off of much smaller samples. It seems pretty clear that those trying to raise the alarm about the climate crisis have a lot of work to do.
